King-sized dad and travel-sized backup dad walk child home from school.
I always liked the idea that Sans and Asgore have no beef with each other and actually get along pretty well, in spite of whatever their relationships to Toriel may be.
No jealousy, no animosity. They both love Frisk, and Frisk loves both of them, and that's all there is to it.
In a Post-Pacifist ending, I can see Frisk latching onto both instead of just one or the other.
I like my Soriel like you wouldn't believe, but that doesn't mean Asgore shouldn't have a place at the big, weird, monster family table. Plus, he generally seems like a more stable guy than Sans is, with more child-rearing experience, so, good dad material. Not a fan at all of the "Asgore gets cucked/forever alone" narrative. I can have my ship and eat it too.
Asgore works with Frisk a lot as the ambassador. Sans sees Frisk a lot at home. Sometimes Asgore sits Frisk, sometimes Sans does. On occasion, all three spend the day together. It actually works out, since they can tag team and cover each others' weak points.
Ex. Asgore: has lips, can administer boo boo kisses. Sans: has a sense of humor, can supply cryptic remarks about needing to amputate. All dad bases covered.
This pic is a little on the fluffy side-- I don't think Frisk would necessarily refer to either of them directly as "Dad," always Sans and Asgore. But the sentiment is the same. If Toriel is definitively Mom, then these two are unofficially Step Dad EX and Step Dad NEO.
Frequently spotted together at Frisk's play rehearsals and soccer games when Toriel is required by her job to be elsewhere.
They're both a little messed up and are still getting back to healthy mindsets, so neither one minds sharing the job between the two. Particularly Sans, who waffles for a LONG time about whether to consider anyone besides his brother 'family', is encouraged to open up more since there's less pressure to be responsible and he can behave the way he wants to. Which is usually misbehaving.
Sorry for rambling, I could talk about the Post-Pacifist family structure for actual hours. Needed some feel-good fluff after the doom and gloom of yesterday.
