Character Kerfuffle 28 July 2013

I can see the alliteration theme for these dumps are going to get harder and harder to come up with the more random characters I start throwing in. Especially when none of them are my baboos. Hm. Well it was a nice idea anyway.

Assorted first drafts for human versions of the Archie Sonic cast. I need to tweak a bunch of these, but they're getting there. I'm happiest with Heavy and Bomb and Marine and I think I'll keep them the way they are. I'm still figuring some stuff out with the rest of them, but figured I'd share anyway. Mostly because of the Shadow/Marine bit at the bottom, ngl.

I'll save most of the explanations for when I make up their cards. But one thing: seriously how is it Shard hasn't gone off to chat with Heavy and Bomb at all? He wants friends and familial ties: there are your familial ties. They know about him already, having recovered him from the lava themselves, they're retired Eggman bots who have managed to gain the trust of the Freedom Fighters, and they understand the Power Gems. IDK, it seems to me like if you're an Eggman robot struggling to fit into a society that mostly fears you and doesn't understand you, those are the guys to talk to.

Also, the newer, stronger, and more "lively" a robot is, the more human-like I draw them. Shard and Omega look like humans because they're more advanced and are generally more expressive. Heavy and Bomb are much earlier models, and are just basic badniks to begin with. They're only barely humanoid and aren't very emotive, so they look like hunks of metal and stand out more than the other two do. Robians are somewhere in between, which you'll get to see eventually.

In the meantime, I've got two other character cards in the inking phase. It's none of these guys, and it's no one anyone suggested (but I am working on a lot of those character's designs too). Should be done soon!
